First things first: The archives have recently been updated to include photos from 13th-16th September, so feel free to go back and have a look.

In keeping with the orignially unplanned aquatic theme in our apartment, Ross and I ventured into Chinatown this afternoon to buy a few fish. We ended up with five for the tank in our lounge: two Green Tiger Barbs and three [regular] Tiger Barbs. Somewhat impulsively, I also bought myself a Siamese fighting fish (commonly referred to as a "betta") to keep me company during late nights spent writing papers.

Kohen, admiring the new residents in the fish tank in our lounge.

We spent about 15 minutes staring at the tank, trying to come up with names. We were very thoughtful about the whole process and shared the task fairly evenly among the three of us. I got to name the two Green Tiger Barbs (the larger ones in the front), so I went with a literary theme. On the left is "Alistair" (from Marilyn Sadler's children's book, Alistair's Time Machine) and on the right is "Lady Macbeth" (from William Shakepeare's drama, Macbeth). Kohen, inspired by the fins moving at helicopter speed, named the small silver dude on the left "Chopper" (he's partially hiding behind Alistair and the plastic flora). Ross named the final two silver fish with no particular theme in mind, as far as I know. The one in the middle (behind Lady Macbeth) is "Grimsby" and the one of the right is "Saul". Saul is small--the smallest, in fact.

Me and my betta, my betta and I. His name is "Scout". (Photo by Kohen, edits by me.)

Kohen and Scout have some male bonding time before I move the bowl to my bedroom.

Me, Scout, and a stalk of bamboo, happily ever after. (Photo by Kohen, edits by me.)
