Yesterday, I had two final papers due: one at 10:30 AM and one at 3:00 PM. In true Jaclyn style, I left both until the last possible minute and was therefore working until the last possible minute. I finished my first paper at 10:19 AM and ran to class to submit it. I arrived at 10:31 AM to find...no one. No students, no professors, no lights on in the room. This, it turns out, is the most expedient way to send me into cardiac arrest.

At 10:33 AM, another student showed up. At 10:35 AM, the professor arrived. People trickled in after that and my heart resumed its usual ka-thunk ka-thunk-ing. But, before that, there was this:

Later in the afternoon/evening (approximately 6:00 PM, which a trained astronomer might be able to figure out from the following images), I played around with shooting directly into the sun. Both images required contrast and brightness adjustments as my camera affords me very limited control (in this case, instant access to the aperture would have been nice); the colour image also required a very slight adjustment in colour saturation. I am moderately pleased with these--mostly, they will serve as an impetus for attempting more photos of the same nature (with better composition).

We need to hang out together and take photos with our digitals and complain about the lack of manual control. "what? no aperture?" "You know, I could really enjoy some F-stop control..."

I generally reserve my photography for a solo activity, but I can certainly enjoy the company of another control-freak photog. ;-) Let me know when you're in town next, if you ever come up here, and I can take you to some cool picture spots around the city.

If I were him, I'd go down to Michigan if only for the change of atmosphere. (I love Toronto, but I'm a travel addict, too.) Road trip!

Well, he came to visit me for my birthday weekend...I figured he'd want a change of atmosphere after all that stress. Maybe it will be warm enough to take him to Lake Michigan! SAND DUNES HOOOOO!!!

What's there to do at Lake Michigan?

Admittedly, I know very little about what one does at a very large lake. My lake experiences have been limited to taking ferries (Lake Ontario) and cottage activities (a lake in Southern Ontario and one in California, Castaic Lake, that's man-made...which just seems wrong).

Otherwise, I'm an ocean girl. Not to be confused with a mermaid, though that wouldn't be bad, save for the seashell bikini top. Ouch.

I prefer the ocean, too. Really, all there is to do is climb around on the sand dunes. They're beautiful.
